ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
-
Parking: There
is no parking fee for this
event. Please park in the paved
lot and walk your items down to
the front gates of the fort.
There is a convenient traffic
circle near the Visitor Center &
Restrooms to drop off your stuff
and then park your vehicle.
-
Facilities & Handicap
Accessibility: There
are handicap accessible flush
toilets and drinking
water fountains located in a separate
white building near the Gift
Shop & Visitor Center. There are
no shower facilities. The fort
has limited handicap
accessibility to the central
courtyard area via a ramp
through the main gates. Some
parts of the fort will not be
readily accessible without minor
assistance - please do not
hesitate to ask for help. The
Gift Shop & Visitor Center will
not be open.
-
Paperwork Is Required
For Guest Minors: If
you are bringing Minors (youth
under 18 years old) who are not
your own children or for whom
you do not have legal
guardianship then you
MUST
have the Minor Consent
To Participate And Hold Harmless
waiver document signed for
each child
by their parent/legal guardian
and brought with you to present
at check-in gate. Please note
that this form will be kept by
our entrance gate staff as part
of our SCA event records:
http://www.sca.org/docs/pdf/chldwaiv.pdf
Any minor not in the company of
their parent or legal guardian
at any SCA event must have in
their possession the following
form, Medical
Authorization for Minors,
which has been completed by
their parents before the event
and witnessed by a Notary
Public. The person responsible
for the Minor that day should
also have a Medical
Authorization for Minors form in
their care for the duration of
the SCA event:
http://www.sca.org/docs/pdf/treatminor-notary.pdf
Please contact the Event
Steward, Lord Nevell Sudlow, for
additional assistance with
questions regarding Guest
Minors.
-
Clothing: An
attempt at pre-17th century
clothing is required to attend
any SCA event. If you are new to
attending SCA events then you
need to know that all SCA event
participants wear clothing that
is suitable for the SCA period
(approximately 600 - 1600).
Please contact our Newcomer
coordinator, Lord Finan, ahead of time to
make arrangements to borrow
appropriate clothing (called
"garb") or the Event Steward,
Lord Nevell Sudlow for further
assistance. Endewearde has
simple and comfortable selection
of loaner
clothing in a wide variety of
sizes to help you attend our SCA
events.
-
Dayboard: If
you haven't attended an event
with a dayboard (lunch) then you need to
know that you are expected to
bring your own sturdy bowl,
plate, drinking cup, utensils
and napkins. It is recommended
you bring a plastic bag to store your
dishware after lunch as there
won't be access to sinks to rinse them
off. (We and the Fort
Knox staff would deeply appreciate
that you do not wash dishes or dump food waste in
the public restrooms). One useful tip
is to bring a paper plate to
place over your sturdier plate;
the paper plate is discarded
after your meal and you get to
pack home a relatively clean
plate. Please plan to bring a
bowl that makes it easy for you
to carry hot soup once served.
-
Keep Warm, Be
Comfortable: You will
want to wear footwear meant for
walking, fencing or fighting on
gravel, dirt floors, or granite
flooring. We have an early
spring in 2012 and hope that the
ground will be dry enough to use
the central lawn parade grounds.
There is plenty of room for
fencing and fighting in the gun
bays on the stone and gravel
flooring inside the fort. Please
consider bringing a warm cloak
or coat -- although the
temperatures may be pleasantly
warm on the day of the event,
the wind off the Penobscot river
can be quite chilly in late
April. Please bring a folding
chair and a water bottle for
your own comfort.
-
Site Information:
The Fort Knox and Penobscot
Narrows Observatory website link
at
http://fortknox.maineguide.com/
has additional information about
the history of the fort as well
as a downloadable brochure (pdf
format). Park and observatory
admission fees are in effect
once the park opens to the
general public on Tuesday, May
1, 2012. Prior to that date the
grounds outside the fort are
open to the general public.
