Seventh Annual Fort Knox Medieval Demo
Saturday,
September 6, 2008
Hosted by Shire
of Endewearde - Prospect, ME
Event Last Modified: September 4, 2008
The Shire of Endewearde invites you to join us in showing off all the best the SCA has to offer in what has become Maine's largest medieval demo, The Seventh Annual Demo at Fort Knox, Saturday, September 6th, 2008 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feel your soul stir as you stand on the granite ramparts of the historic Fort Knox, overlooking the Penobscot River. The event will be held rain-or-shine!
Last year's demo gave thousands of visitors (seriously!) a taste of a Pas d'Arms for heavy list, fencing, youth fighting, thrown weapons, music, dance and A&S exhibits. So bring your armor and weapons or lutes and looms and join in the festivities.
This year we will include sampler style presentations - if you have a topic you are passionate about, a skill you'd like to show off or an interactive demonstration you would like to share, we would love to include it to the events list.
Performers of all kinds are welcome - we will find you a place to perform as much or as little as you wish! Please contact the autocrat if you're interested in performances or presentations.
There is no fee to attend, just inform the gatekeeper that you are part of the SCA demo. While there is no formal dayboard, a light repast and beverage are available for all volunteers. Picnic areas are available for general use. Being a state park, the site is dry. We suggest that you bring your chair of choice. Also, if you want to explore the fort on your own please bring a good torch (or flashlight) as some of the areas are quite dark and there is no lighting. Fort Knox is also home to the Penobscot Narrows Observatory - 437 feet above the Penobscot River. On a clear day, visitors can see 40 miles in all directions!
A more complete schedule will be announced on the Endewearde website in late summer. Because site provides panoramic views of the Penobscot River and the day-long demo has an event-like feel, we hope many SCAdians will add our demo to their fall calendars. It is simply a one-two punch that is hard to beat: beautiful coastal Maine in late summer, and a chance to talk to hundreds of interested people about your favorite hobbies! Those wishing to make a full weekend of it are invited to contact the autocrat who will help find lodging or crash space as needed.
Since we have visitors from all over the state, and sometimes all over New England, Chatelaines from all over the region are invited not only to attend, but also to display materials at Information Point. This is a great recruiting opportunity, and a wonderful event for new SCAdians!
Directions:
From all points via I-95.
Get to Bangor via I-95; take Brewer exit 182A (182B from the North). Take exit 4 toward Route 15; stay to the left of the Y, and take a left at the lights. Follow Route 15 for apx. 17.5 miles. You will enter Bucksport and go through the downtown/main street. Turn right onto Bridge Street (it's a bridge, so it's hard to miss) and travel .9 miles on ME-3/US-1. You will go over a large bridge - you will see the fort from the bridge to your right. After crossing the bridge, take a right at Fort Knox Road/ME-174 E. You will see the Fort parking area.
PARKING NOTICE: Please use the Fort's main parking area for loading/unloading only. A limited number of vehicles may be permitted onto the main site for load in - contact the autocrat if you need to bring items directly on site. After loading/unloading, volunteers will be asked to move their vehicles to another lot to free up space for visitors.
