Fort Knox Demo

Saturday, September 6th, 2003

Hosted by Shire of Endewearde - Prospect, ME

Event Last Modified: May 30th, 2003

Last year 1500 people attended.  Not only was it great for the park visitors but also we enjoyed ourselves.  Perhaps the highest praise came from Sir Ivan Ulricson:  "This felt more like an event then a demo" that, with 1500 on lookers.  We hope to double the attendance this year.  Please follow the link to see the fort http://fortknox.maineguide.com/ Because the site provides panoramic views of the Penobscot River it is a beautiful location.  We hope many SCAdians will add our demo to their fall calendars.  It is simply a one-two punch that is hard to beat:  beautiful coastal Maine in the fall, and a chance to talk to hundreds of interested people about your favorite hobbies (too, with that many potential new members, we need more than a skeleton crew).

The activities will be daylong and will include:  a Pas de Armes for heavy fighters (using) last years script (original hyperlink for Pas script does not work), a dancing demonstration (the Dissonatas http://www.dissonatas.com/ had roughly 60 people from the crowd dancing last year), a fencing demonstration (it is Endewearde after all), an archery field (think of lines for a theme park ride – talk about a captive audience, bards, jonglers…anyone, anyone…), an arts and sciences display, a fabric arts demonstration, and a games area.

There is no day board but a light refreshment table, for participants, will be provided.  Picnic areas are available.  Since the site is a State Park it is dry.  Also, if you want to explore the fort on your own please bring a flashlight as some of the areas are quite dark and there is no lighting.  (The Fort Knox web page, above, lists, under “Business Partners” area Restaurants, Hotels and campgrounds and area attractions, a good way to turn a long day trip into a slower paced weekend mini-vacation).
