One of the most delightful things about the SCA is dressing the part! If you have a detailed persona, the clothes truly do make the man (or lady!)
Wearing the beautiful clothing of the Renaissance and the Middle Ages gives members the opportunity to truly escape modern times. And since the requirement is that guests at events must wear an attempt at pre-17th century garb, it's always a good idea to learn how to make it!
The shire has many people who are happy to help with research of period clothing, fabrics and design, and folks who are also willing to teach basic sewing to those who are novices.
We have, among others, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Celts, Britons, Elizabethon Britons, Renaissance Italians, Mongols, German landsknechts, Turks, Byzantine citizenry, Flemish, and many other s! And we have seen or know of folks who dress in full Aztec, Japanese and Chinese garb. If someone wore it between1000 and 1600, so does someone in the SCA! |
